Professor Schlegel received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the S. I. Newhouse Center for Law and Justice at Rutgers. His research interests include organizational crime and the social mechanisms used to control it, the jurisprudence of sentencing, and criminal justice planning and evaluation. His most recent research is an examination of a spectrum of organized criminal activity, from the social organization of futures trading to the organization and enterprise of illegal drug distribution. Professor Schlegel co-edited White-Collar Crime Reconsidered (Northeastern University Press, 1992). He is also the author of Just Deserts for Corporate Criminals (Northeastern University Press, 1990). Professor Schlegel teaches courses on theories of crime and deviance, white-collar crime, and criminal justice management.
