The Department of Criminal Justice is proud to have 14 Phi Beta Kappa inductees in 2023-2024!
The 4+1 Pathway Program continues to grow in size and popularity. In 2023-2024 the 4+1 Program welcomed nine new students into the program and had four students graduate with their undergraduate degree to advance to the graduate program in the fall.
In May, the 4+1 Pathway Program passed a huge milestone—awarding our first masters graduate! Piper Majors graduated with a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice after completing the graduate coursework and defending her substantial paper titled “Drug Screen Requirements for Probationers with Addictions.”
Shamaria Thomas was awarded the Marvin W. Dexter Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year. This award remembers Marvin Dexter, who completed his Indiana State Police Academy training at Indiana University and subsequently served 27 years as an Indiana State Trooper, and whose life embodied our departmental mission to educate and empower students in service to the community, social justice, and fairness. First generation college students who are pursuing the BA in Criminal Justice at the Indiana University-Bloomington campus are eligible.
Congratulations to the 120 undergraduate students who received their Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University in Winter 2023 and Spring/Summer 2024! Additionally, 51 graduates received a minor in Criminal Justice and 4 graduates received the Criminal Justice Certificate. It has been our pleasure to support these students during their time at IU. Go Hoosiers!

The Criminal Justice Student Association is open to any IU student who has an interest in criminal justice issues. Monthly meetings include guest speakers (including many of our own faculty and adjuncts), volunteering and community outreach, and social gatherings such as watch parties and pizza nights.
