The Department of Criminal Justice celebrates the life and mourns the passing of Robert Forney, Jr., on December 4, 2022. Dr. Forney, Jr. was a distinguished faculty member of The Robert F. Borkenstein Course on Alcohol and Highway Safety: Testing, Research and Litigation through The Center for Studies of Law in Action.
Dr. Forney earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 1967. He further completed his Ph.D. in Toxicology from the Indiana University School of Medicine and a post doctoral fellowship in Forensic Toxicology at Case Western Reserve University. Some of his appointments included associate professor positions at the Medical College of Ohio, School of Medicine, Department of Pathology; and also the School of Allied Health. Dr. Forney was an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Toledo’s College of Pharmacy; Director of the Poison Control Center and the Director of Toxicology at the Medical College Hospital. He was the Forensic Toxicologist for the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, a board-certified diplomate with the American Board of Forensic Toxicology, a fellow at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, a member of the Executive Committee of the Committee on Alcohol and Drugs, National Safety Council and Chairman of the Social and Behavioral Factors Subcommittee. He was also a member of the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists.
