Dr. Adam Ghazi-Tehrani is the new associate editor for the journal Crime, Law, and Social Change. The journal aims to cover crime and deviance at the global, national, regional and local level worldwide. It has a special focus on financial crime, corruption, terrorism and organizational crime, and welcomes criminological research in the areas of human rights, comparative and international criminal law and criminal justice.  

Dr. Roger Levesque’s 2nd edition of his book, Child Maltreatment Law: Foundations in Science, Practice, and Policy, featured at the 2025 college book celebration. The book provides cases and material to analyze actions and decisions that have occurred in child maltreatment cases.  

Dr. Natalie Hipple’s was named Strategic Faculty Partner to IU Police Department. This new partnership was highlighted in IU today. The strategic partnership agreement aims to strengthen service to the IU community. The article highlights how a partnership with faculty and IUPD supports goals to institutionalize evidence-based practices, improve transparency, and foster a collaborative environment between the university and police department. Dr. Hipple will work as an operational liaison and provide policy recommendations and support data analysis, collection, and reporting.  

Dr. Adam Ghazi-Tehrani was a guest on National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE)’s podcast to talk about Public Perceptions of Punishment for Mass Violence. The host, Ben Battafarano,  sat down with the NCITE Director of Law Enforcement Partnerships and Dr. Adam Ghazi Tehrani to discuss their research into the similarities and differences between the scholarship, public conceptualization, and public attitudes toward punishment for terrorism, hate crimes, and other forms of mass violence.  

Senior Lecturer Dr. Todd Burkhardt was a guest on IU’s Interprofessional Practice Education and Center’s podcast to talk about the Veteran Trauma and Transparency series that he teaches. The program is finishing its fourth year and is now taught at both the Indianapolis and Bloomington campus.! The goal of the course is to increase awareness and knowledge of military culture and experiences for future service providers to improve the quality of care for veterans.  

Dr. Arvind Verma has been invited by the India School of Business to conduct sessions for senior police leaders of India at their Hyderbad campus, November 20-21st.  

Dr. Roger Levesque was mentioned in an article titled, “Donor Funded Scholarship Opens Doors for IU Student’s Path to Victim Advocacy”, by IU News. The student who was the focus of the piece talks about how Adolescents and the Law was one of the two most influential classes for her.  

Dr. Tri Keah Henry was awarded the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences’ Dorothy Bracey/ Janice Joseph Minority and Women New Scholar Award! This award is presented to recognize outstanding academic contributions by new minority and female scholars in honor of the first female and racial minority ACJS Presidents. 

Dr. Bonnie Ernst presented a paper titled “Convict leasing of Women in the American South, 1870-1930: Race, Gender, and Global Nineteenth-Century Punishment,” at the fifth international conference on punishment in the global peripheries held at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.  

Dr. Bonnie Ernst was awarded two fellowships to support her research. The Jesse Fine Fellowship from the Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and America Institutions supports the study of work on moral concepts and problems in practical ethics, citizenship, and professional life. Second, she was also awarded the Texas State Library and Archives Commission Research Fellowship in Texas History to travel there and conduct research  

Dr. Miriam Northcutt-Bohmert was also highlighted as part of the IUB’s “Office Hours” series. The authors reflected on how she integrates research and teaching as she has developed in her different roles at IU. 

Dr. Natalie Hipple completed a study that developed the first comprehensive typology of how American police departments respond to homelessness. “Planning, Implementing and Assessing Law Enforcement Responses to Homelessness” was produced as part of this to provide more information for local law enforcement.
