Alumni Profile: Chris Maxwell

After earning his B.A. in Sociology and Criminal Justice at Indiana University in 1990, Chris Maxwell completed his M.A. and Ph.D. at Rutgers University. He is currently a Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University.

Chris has a distinguished publication record, with a focus on understanding and improving how governments and NGOs can prevent and control intimate partner violence and violence against women. His recent work involves assessing the extent to which intimate partner violence is prosecuted and prosecuted successfully, and in particular, testing whether or not more prosecution and sanction leads to less violence.

The author of an impressive number of articles, book chapters, and technical reports, Chris has been an investigator on numerous grants over the years. He was the featured speaker at the Spring 2016 Criminal Justice graduation celebration, where he offered a moving account of his time at IU and its impact on his career.
